Programs & services
Work that starts at the grassroots.
Every program we run grows out of a simple practice: show up, listen, and do what community actually asks for. Below is the heart of what we do for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and families across Cape York and Far North Queensland — including those in rural and remote communities and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Community Outreach & Emergency Relief
When a family hits a rough patch — an empty fridge, a bill that can't wait, a crisis at home — they shouldn't have to navigate it alone. Our outreach team visits homes and communities in person, delivering food hampers and essential items, checking in on Elders, and sitting down for a proper yarn about what's going on and what would help.
Because we are local and known in community, people come to us early — before small problems become emergencies. That trust is our most important asset, and we protect it by being consistent, confidential and genuinely helpful.
- Door-to-door outreach visits across Cairns and Cape York communities
- Food relief and essential household items for families in hardship
- Regular check-ins with Elders and isolated community members
- Crisis response — a friendly face and practical help when it's needed most
Referral & Advocacy Support
Government systems, health services and housing providers can be hard to navigate — especially from a remote community or when English isn't your first language. We walk with people through the process: making calls together, filling in forms side by side, and following up so nobody falls through the cracks.
We advocate firmly and respectfully for community members with service providers, and we connect people with the right help the first time — health and mental health services, housing and tenancy support, legal assistance, financial counselling, and family services.
- Warm referrals to health, housing, legal and family services
- Help with forms, applications, identification and paperwork
- Advocacy with government agencies and service providers
- Follow-up support until the issue is actually resolved
Community Gatherings & Yarning
Strong communities talk to each other. We host regular gatherings — community BBQs, yarning circles and information sessions — where families can connect, share what's happening, and hear directly from services in a safe, culturally respectful space.
These gatherings are where trust is built and where community tells us what it needs next. Many of our programs began as a conversation at one of these events.
- Community BBQs and family days in Cairns and across the Cape
- Yarning circles led by community, for community
- Information sessions with health, housing and support services on Country
- A safe, welcoming space for all — including people new to the region
Cultural Connection & Wellbeing
Culture is not a program add-on — it is the ground everything else stands on. We support activities that keep culture strong: time on Country, Elders sharing stories and knowledge with younger generations, and community events that celebrate language, identity and belonging.
When people are strong in culture, they are stronger in every other part of life. That's why cultural connection runs through all of our outreach, advocacy and gathering work.
- Support for Elders to share knowledge with young people
- Cultural activities and time on Country
- Community events celebrating identity and belonging
- Culturally safe delivery across every program we run
